Oncologist

 October 7, 2018

4:30 a.m.

Real talk time: if you're on a date, and you want to go home, you have every right to go home - especially if you're calling an Uber or Lyft or taxi.

If, when you call your ride, and your date grabs your phone away from you and answers the phone call from the driver saying "cancel, cancel!" while, in the background, begging you to go home with him, he's not worth your time.

If, when your ride arrives, your date tries to get into the car - despite your repeated objections - grabs you by the wrist, trying to get you to leave the car, and then proceeds to stand in the car door so you can't close it, that date - a man, because it’s always a man, isn’t it? - is being a possessive jerk, has serious control issues, and is flying a bunch of red flags. He is not worth your time.

If he only backs down when your driver intervenes (because your driver easily has a 200 lb. advantage) by threatening to get out and remove your date from the vehicle, so you can go home, not only is the guy being a possessive jerk, but he also has no respect for you whatsoever, and he's not worth your time.

It doesn't matter how successful a person is. The guy in this particular situation is apparently an oncologist. That doesn't make him a good person.

Good people demonstrate their goodness through their actions. They shouldn't have to convince you they're good. And, if they don't want you to leave Sauget at 4:30 a.m. - a place you didn't even want to go in the first place - so you can go back to your warm bed, and your even warmer dog, that person is not a good person, and, again, is not worth your time.

(Don't worry, she got home - and inside - safely. As for the guy, I hope his repeated calls and texts to her number tomorrow go unanswered.)
